Afghan Women Activist Coordinating Body (AWACB)

A Global Movement for the Rights and Freedom of Afghan Women

The Afghan Women Activists Coordinating Body (AWACB) is a worldwide alliance of thousands of Afghan women activists, human-rights defenders, journalists, and community leaders. We unite Afghan women across more than a dozen countries to defend human rights, resist gender apartheid, and ensure that their voices are heard at every international level.

Rooted in solidarity and empowerment, AWACB provides support to women at risk, connects resources across borders, and leads global advocacy efforts—including the international #NoToGenderApartheidInAfghanistan movement.

Our Mission

  • Unite Afghan women worldwide under one strong, collective voice
  • Advocate for women’s rights and human dignity
  • Support and protect women facing persecution
  • Represent Afghan women on global platforms
  • Build international alliances for justice, equality, and peace

Who We Are

AWACB is a worldwide network of Afghan women working locally and globally to support, empower, and protect Afghan women at risk.

In each of the 19 countries where we are active, we work directly with Afghan women — coordinating support, advocacy, protection efforts, and international engagement. Inside Afghanistan, our network spans 30 provinces, maintaining connections with women facing severe restrictions, persecution, and exclusion under Taliban rule.

We serve as:

  • A platform for coordination and unity
  • A protection and referral network
  • An international advocacy body
  • A bridge between Afghan women and global institutions

What We Do

  • Coordinate Afghan women activists across borders
  • Document human rights violations
  • Provide protection referrals and emergency support
  • Engage with international institutions and policymakers
  • Build alliances with civil society organizations worldwide
  • Organize global campaigns against gender apartheid
  • Support displaced Afghan women in host countries

Our work connects grassroots activism with global diplomacy.

Why AWACB Matters

Afghan women are facing one of the most systematic forms of gender-based oppression in modern history. Education bans, employment restrictions, movement limitations, and political exclusion have created a system that many legal scholars recognize as gender apartheid.

AWACB exists to ensure:

  • Afghan women are not silenced
  • Their suffering is documented
  • Their leadership is recognized
  • Their demands are heard

Freedom, dignity, and equality are not negotiable rights.
